“You can teach a student a lesson for a day; but if you can teach him to learn by creating curiosity, he will continue the learning process as long as he lives.”

Clay P. Bedford

Thank you for your interest in tutoring a child through Lawyers for Learning! Tutoring is open to all members of the Erie County legal community, including judges, attorneys, legal secretaries, paralegals, law students, and retirees.  It is a one-hour-per-week commitment beginning in mid-October and running through the end of May.  If you are interested in tutoring but cannot commit to tutoring once weekly, you may split the tutoring duties with another colleague.

Every year, there are more students signed up for the program than there are tutors available.  We anticipate an even greater need for tutors this year, as the COVID-19 pandemic and the resulting swift closures of schools has resulted in students falling behind academically.  Historically all tutoring has been done in person at the school; however, this year for the first time the option of remote tutoring will be offered.  While we cannot yet predict exactly what the fall will bring, we do know that students will need tutors more than ever.

If you are interested in signing up to be matched with a student, please complete this form with all requested information. You should submit this form whether you are a new or returning tutor. If you would like a paper application please send us an e-mail.

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact Sarah Duval at sduval@elderjusticeny.org or lawyersforlearning@gmail.com
